The One-Sentence Campaign Brief
Write the goal Google Ads' AI setup builds from in four parts, then check the campaign heard each one before it spends.
Google Ads is testing a new first screen for building a campaign. It asks one question, "What's your goal for this campaign?", and Google AI suggests goals and assets from what you type. Google's Ads Liaison confirmed it's an experiment, and a "Create campaign manually" link sits under the box.
The sentence matters because of what it replaces. Today the first step is picking an objective (Sales, Leads, Website traffic), and that choice guides the campaign type and the settings Google recommends. For Performance Max, Demand Gen and Video campaigns, Google's help says the objective can't be edited after the campaign is created.
The vague version. "Get me more patients" can mean more website bookings, more phone calls, or more page visits. A campaign optimizing for one can look busy while the other never moves.
Every part answers a decision the old form used to ask you for. Leave one out, and that decision is made for you.
worth about [$ VALUE] each,
from people in [PLACE], not people researching [PLACE].
Skip [SEARCHES YOU WON'T PAY FOR].
[$ MONTHLY BUDGET] a month, [$ MAXIMUM] or less per [RESULT].
A dental clinic (the film's example)
Get booked new patient cleanings, worth about $250 each, from people in Austin, not people researching Austin. Skip dental school, job and do-it-yourself searches. $900 a month, $60 or less per booking.A local plumber
Get phone calls for emergency repairs, worth about $400 each, from homeowners in Columbus, not people researching Columbus. Skip plumbing jobs, plumbing school and how-to searches. $1,500 a month, $75 or less per call.An online store
Get purchases of our leather wallets, worth about $60 each, from shoppers in the United States. Skip free, wholesale and how-to-make searches. $2,000 a month, $20 or less per purchase. These numbers are examples. Use your own value per result and your own ceiling.
Before the campaign spends anything, open its settings and check it heard each part.
Google measured its earlier chat setup partly with Ad Strength. Google's own page says Ad Strength isn't used to calculate Ad Rank, Quality Score or auction wins. It rates how varied your ads are, not whether they sell.
Grade the campaign on three things instead:
Then decide. If the AI version wins on those, use it. If it doesn't, the manual link is right there.
